Image Series-New Orleans Engagement Session

Last May I right after Sydney was born I had a quick trip down to New Orleans. Makenzie and Cody’s wedding in Dallas was coming up fast but they were both still living in NOLA. I flew down for an evening and morning engagement session so we could get their guest book designed and printed in time for the wedding. I have several images that I’m fond of from that weekend with them. I’m sure more will pop up in this series at some point.

This was toward the end of the night on our photo walk. I’m partial to green and they fit perfectly. What do you think?

Image Series-Wedding Cake at Old Red Courthouse

This wedding cake from a few years ago at the Old Red Courthouse in Dallas is one I’m fond of. Part of the fun of being a wedding photographer is the high energy use of creativity on the go. Wedding photography is not about magazine spreads and details, it’s about people, moments and family history in the making. However, it is my job to preserve all of the really cool details and photograph them in a way your average joe won’t.

For this shot I had a Nikon SB-800 bungee corded at camera right. You can see the light source coming straight across the frame from right to left. The off camera flash was controlled with Nikon’s awesome wireless creative light system.

Image Series-Bridal Party on the Lake

When the actual wedding photography slows down I’m always racking my brain to find something to post. It hit me yesterday…that’s unbelievably silly. I have stacks of hard drives full of images that I just love to show.

This is the first post in my new “Image Series.” I’ll be going through older weddings and picking single favorite wedding photographs to talk about.

This was from Lua and Kory’s wedding in August of 2008. It was a great day for me…it was the day we found out Lee was pregnant with Sydney. There wedding day was also on my parent’s anniversary. August 31st…a great day! It was 100+ degrees at the lake house in Tyler Texas for the wedding, but everyone in the bridal party was super cool. There was no hurrying after the ceremony and the wedding photography we made are some of my favorite. This picture of the girls on with their different colored dresses is often featured on the front of my web site. It will always be a favorite of mine.

I don’t think that I’ve ever posted any shots of the bridal party from the front. Here’s the other side.

Sarah’s Bridal Session | Highland Park Presbyterian Church

Now that Sarah and Matt’s Wedding has come and gone I’m excited to show some of the photos from her bridal session last April. We photographed these at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas. It was almost a very stormy day and very windy but we had a great time!

Their wedding was so personal and special, I can’t wait to post some more photos here on the site. I know Sarah and Matt will be picking their favorite wedding photographs soon, so check back to see the preview of their album when it’s online!

Fun Day at the Circus

Lee, Sydney and I met Lee’s sis, Andrea in Dallas and had a great day at the circus. If I have ever been to the circus, it was before my memory kicked in. It was a great time and as Lee said, “This really is a circus!” I’m sure Sydney won’t remember but she had a great time. She even fit in a nap before intermission.

Not only was the circus a blast but I was glad I brought my work camera and lenses. It was fun to shoot in challenging lighting with no pressure for a change. The light was almost as difficult and inconsistent as photographing a wedding! I played around with some different metering and focusing on my D700. Next wedding ceremony…I’m shooting it like a circus!

One day I’ll get to show these pictures to Syd and we’ll tell her about her first circus.

Father’s Prayer-Dallas Wedding Photography

I always pay special attention to the fathers of the bride on a wedding day.  I think sometimes with the excitement of the day they can be forgotten.  I admire them with their quiet emotion.

There are two main reasons my thoughts tend to go their way.

My father’s passing led me to photography.  I didn’t see it at the time but it’s obvious now.

I am now a father of a beautiful baby girl. One day (long from now) I hope to be that father.

Kevin, this slideshow is for you.  I was honored to photograph YOUR daughter’s day.  I know what you said is true.  It will be here in the blink of an eye.

Tammy’s Plano Texas Bridal Session

Now that Tammy and Jeff’s wedding is in the past I can finally post a few from Tammy’s bridal photo session a few months ago.  We spent a little time in the heat in Haggard Park of downtown Plano.  Had a great time as always with Tammy and these are a few that I especially like.

Thanks for trusting me to be your wedding photographer!

Sarah+Matt:Coppell Texas

Sarah and Matt are married and off to Italy for their amazing honeymoon tomorrow.  They had a beautiful wedding and reception today at Valley Ranch Baptist Church.  I’m back early copy images from their wedding with Sydney and wanted to go ahead and pop a couple online.  I’ll have a longer blog post from their wedding later.

Sarah and Matt…I meant what I said when you left.  Thank YOU…it was my honor!
