You’ve already seen Pam and Javier here on the blog in their Engagement Session at Kiepersol Estates Winery and Vineyard. I shot most of session in digital on the D3s. I did take my Hexar RF Leica mount rangefinder. Man I love this camera! I’ve mostly been running Ilford HP5 though it and I’m very pleased. My entire rangefinder lens kit (body+ four lenses) is smaller than my Nikon 70-200…how awesome is that? Adorama’s got a great deal on their HP5 right now…pick up a three pack of 36 exposure 135 for $10.50. You can’t beat that!
I send my film down to Precision Camera in Austin and they do a great job with processing and scanning. The scans are a fat 30 megapixel. These three images are shot on the Konica Hexanon 50mm f/2. It’s a killer lens and its focusing is as smooth as silk. If you’re looking for on, keep your eye on Adorama’s used lens page…they pop up there from time to time. The Hear RF is a dream to shoot…If you’re hesitating buying one because you think you’re missing something compared to the Leica M7…don’t worry. The meter is right on and you can shoot at 1/4000 so you can actually use those big apertures when you’re outside.
There are many reasons why I’m shooting film. High up on the list is the dynamic range. Check out the shadow detail in Javier and Pam’s faces in the third shot. In that image and the second on I was shooting the HP5 at 1600 ISO.
I had to toss one more from the end of the roll here from a fun night at Dave and Buster’s with the kiddos!
