I'm Phil and I hope that some part of my work here brings a smile to your face.  I love everything about photography, including the discussion of it.  I post here about recent weddings and photo sessions as well as photography topics that are on my mind.

Whether you have come here as a future bride or photographer looking around the web, I'd love to hear from you.  Make sure you leave a comment on your favorite post or click on the contact link in the top menu row.

Do You Shoot in Black & White or Digital

I'm often asked by brides, "Do you shoot in black and white or digital."  I think this questions has roots both in the legacy of film photography and from consumer cameras with their B&W setting.

For those unsure of how this works, I shoot in digital in what is called a RAW format.  Unlike outputting JPG's from a digital camera, RAW files retain all of the information collected by the camera sensor at the moment of exposure.  Using this type of file gives me the maximum amount of data to use when developing the images on the computer.  The sensor, collects color information, therefore the files are color to start with.  Any of my B&W conversions are processed on the computer.

I made this short video to demonstrate this process.  I used Photoshop CS3 and a few Totally Rad Actions. I suggest watching it in full screen.

Frequently Asked Questions for Brides Shopping for Wedding Photography

I've been wanting to create a FAQ for brides.  Instead of making another boring list I thought I'd create a video to talk through some of the things I think are important in your hunt for a wedding photographer.

This is my first video post so I'm excited to be sharing it.  My biggest lesson learned...allow enough time for out takes when you're shooting video with natural window light:)

Planning a wedding is an intimidating process.  I hope that you will get some ideas from watching the video to help in your search.

If there is anything you feel I missed or questions you'd like to ask, let me know in the comments.  Happy New Year!!
